So the display drivers or something are all messed up. I got the Belkin Thunderbolt (DisplayPort) to HDMI adapter and it is recognized as soon as I plug it in.
But all windows stop working on the MacBook and the screen stops updating. I have the latest Apple MacBook Pro Retina 15' and needed to attach it to secondary screens (often televisions.) I have a Sony Bravia here with HDMI input. On the MacBook I can sort of see that it has set things to "Optimized for the Sony TV", so it sees the device and even detects its settings. If you want 4K 60 HZ HMDI look for a HDMI 2.0 adapter. No point in it being TB3 since HDMI is TMDS and It will be an active Display Port adapter anyway. Unless there is some dual HDMI adapter you can find. Thankfully as soon as I unplug the adapter everything is fine again. I dont think there are thunderbolt 3 to HDMI adapters.
